Soul Machine - Soul Tribute Band
ATLANTIC
SOUL MACHINE are alive and gigging. A nine piece all action band,
whose Big Soul Sound is based on their love of the great sixties soul
hits provided by artists such as Wilson Pickett, Otis Reading, Percy
Sledge, Rufus Thomas, James Brown and Aretha Franklin, etc. Much of
this material was found on the classic Atlantic Label.
The core of this band's
format is the backbone of the brass section, putting together a powerful
Atlantic style soul band with the feel of the sixties yet the appeal
of the nineties.
Formed in 1989 by Trombonist
Pete Lamont the band has since performed over 2000 shows. Their previous
clients include Sir Paul McCartney who enjoyed the show so much he
booked them again. ASM have also performed at over 200 College/Universities
throughout the UK including most of the Cambridge and Oxford Balls,
Durham Uni. Surrey Uni. and many many more…
The Band have toured the
UK and Europe several times both as Atlantic Soul Machine, and as
backing bands for a number of American Soul Artists, most recently
including Fred Wesley, James Browns Band leader, and Rufus Thomas
the famous blues Soul Singer from Memphis. The band also perform regularly
at various Park Lane Hotels, the bands highlight of 1998 was a performance
at Highbury in front of 35,000 fans on the day Arsenal won the Premiership.
The current line up of
the band features Emmett North on Guitar and Vocals. Emmett originates
from Ohio, and over the years has worked both live and in the studio
with Barry White, Isaac Hayes and The Chosen Few. Emmett also had
a small part in the original Blues Brothers film.
The second vocalist is
Jaqi Sampson. Jaqi originates from Jamaica and has been with The Atlantic
Soul Machine since the early days. Jaqi is currently in the process
of recording her first solo album.
On Keys is Serge Feys,
who with Drummer Rudy Cloet joined the band whilst they were touring
in Europe, both hailing from Ostend in Belgium where they still live,
when they are not out with the band.
On Bass is Derek Taylor
a very experienced musician who is on a break from the band Roachford
following the success of his latest album.
The horn section features
John Joseph on trumpet, Phil Watson on Tenor Sax and Pete Lamont on
trombone. Pete is the founder and leader of the band; his CV covers
work with Maxi Priest, Desmond Dekker and Geno Washington among may
others.
