Lionel Richie Tribute
Star
of ‘Stars In Their Eyes’, James Alexander captures the
mood and music of Lionel Richie.
Lionel Richie formed several
R&B groups during the 60's. He became the lead singer and saxophonist
for the Commodores. The band signed for Atlantic for a one-record
deal before moving over to Motown where they acted as a support band
for the Jackson Five. The Commodores became the most popular soul
group of the 70's and Richie wrote and sang many of their hits.
He developed his writing
and production talents working with Kenny Rogers, and dueted with
Diana Ross on the theme song for Endless Love that topped the charts
in the US and UK.
These successes enabled
him to launch a solo career and in 1982 he had a hit with Truly.
Richie followed up with
15-million seller Can't Slow Down, which won him a Grammy and turned
him into an international star.
