Patrick Kielty
Patrick’s
Irish break was hosting his own live show ‘PK Tonight’,
which attracted a 60% audience share on BBC NI, and it also won him
an RTS Award for Best Regional Presenter. His first network prime
time show followed, hosting ‘After The Break’ on BBC1;
but it was the Channel 4 show ‘Last Chance Lottery’ that
made him a household name, which he followed with ‘The National
Lottery Big Ticket’ (BBC1).
He has fronted a new quiz
show, ‘Stupid Punts’(CHX Prods) which aired on BBC Choice
and BBC2. His extremely successful chat show ‘Patrick Kielty
Almost Live’ (Green Inc. Prods) returned for its fourth series
on BBC1. He has also co-presented BBC1's ‘Fame Academy’
(Endemol) with Cat Deeley.
In 2005, Partick continued
to host a number of television programmes, including ‘Celebrity
Love Island’, ‘Comic Relief Red Nose Night Live’,
and ‘Tickled Pink’.
In 2006, Patrick has presented
on the ‘Richard and Judy Show’ and hosted the Princes
Trust 30th Birthday Party, as well as starring in the documentary
‘All Out for India’.
In 2007, Kielty was given the rare opportunity of interviewing Irish Taoiseach Bertie Ahern and British Prime Minister Tony Blair shortly after the finalisation of the Northern Ireland peace agreement on 8 May.
Kielty received some criticism in March 2007 when presenting a live episode of Comic Relief does Fame Academy when he referred to Radio 1 DJ contestant Colin Murray as a "big gayer." Three complaints were made to Ofcom and the BBC as the comments were perceived by some as homophobic and offensive. The BBC responded saying that the line was unscripted and "spur of the moment" but that Kielty had been reminded "to be more careful during the remaining live shows."
In September 2007 Kielty apologised after joking about the disappearance of Madeleine McCann during filming of a TV show. The comments prompted several outraged audience members to leave the Dublin auditorium.
Winter 2007 sees Kielty embark in the UK production of A Night in November a comedy play written by fellow Northern Irelander Marie Jones, author of Stones in His Pockets.
