Jason Manford
Jason Manford (born 26 May 1981, Salford, Manchester, England), is an English writer, comedian, actor and television presenter, who began his career in 1999.
When Jason was working in a comedy club collecting glasses at the age of 17, a performer failed to arrive for an evening session and he stepped in to fill the gap – it was this event which marked the beginning of his comedy career. Sixteen performances later he was crowned 'The City Life North West Comedian of the year'.
He also hosted a breakfast show on Xfm Manchester until 15 May 2008.
From June 2007 until November 2007, he was UK TV cable and satellite channel Paramount Comedy's Continuity Announcer and Writer.
In June 2007, he took over from Dave Spikey as a team captain on 8 out of 10 Cats.
He also did his own show which aired every Monday to Friday and was called Tonightly during August 2008.
Jason cites Billy Connolly as his comedy hero after seeing him when Jason was 8, and comics such as Tommy Cooper and Les Dawson heavily influenced his comic style.
After a successful first UK tour and high sales of the following DVD, he is soon to start his "Turning Into My Dad" tour on July 14th.
He can currently be heard as the voice over on the Churchill Insurance adverts.
In 2009 in an interview on Friday Night With Jonathan Ross, Manford talked about his passion for musicals, expressing an interest in taking a singing and acting role on stage, and giving a short, impromptu performance of "Suddenly Seymour".
He can currently be heard as one of the voices in the BBC comedy sketch show, Walk on the Wild Side.
Jason appeared in Channel 4's Shameless in the 4th Series as a security guard that is seduced by Karen Maguire.
In March 2010 it was announced that he will front a new comedy show called Comedy Rocks. It will feature stand up comedians, as well as musical performances. No series has been commissioned as of yet, but a pilot will air on ITV1 on Friday 26th March 2010
In 2010, Manford took part in Channel 4's Comedy Gala, a benefit show held in aid of Great Ormond Street Children's Hospital, filmed live at the O2 Arena in London on 30 March.
