Chaka Khan
Chaka Khan is a multi Grammy award winning American singer-songwriter who has found success both as a member of award winning group Rufus and as a solo artist. She has released 23 albums between 1970 and 2010, in addition to six Best Of collections.
Khan first found major success with funk band Rufus, of which she was lead vocalist from 1970 to 1983. The band released several chart topping songs, including “Tell Me Something Good,” “Ain’t Nobody,” “Sweet Thing” and “Everlasting Love.” By the time the band split in 1983 they had released six Platinum selling albums and received two Grammy awards. Khan then embarked on a thriving solo career, releasing highly successful tracks such as “I’m With Woman,” the U.K No.1 hit “I Feel For You” and “Through The Fire.” To date three of her solo albums have earned Platinum discs, with a further seven achieving Gold status, amassing a total of eight Grammy awards.
Khan’s success has continued well into the 2000s. In 2005 Kanye West sampled “Through The Fire” for his U.K. and U.S. top20 debut single “Through The Wire,” which received critical acclaim. In 2007 Khan released a new solo album Funk This, which entered the U.S charts at No15 and earnt her another gold disc there. In 2009 she embarked on the highly popular Here Comes The Girls tour around the U.K. with Anastacia and Lulu, including an appearance on The Royal Variety Performance. 2010 sees the release of her collaboration with U.K. soul singer Beverly Knight “Soul Survivor.”
