Chesney Hawkes
Chesney Hawkes is an English pop singer, songwriter and actor.
Hawkes career began at 19 when he appeared as the lead role in the film Buddy’s Song. In 1991 he released his debut single “The One And Only” from the film’s soundtrack, becoming his biggest and best known hit. The song reached No.1 on the U.K. charts for five weeks. The song was later featured in the opening credits of Doc Hollywood, starring Michael J Fox. This led to huge airplay for the song in the U.S. where it peaked at No.10 upon release. Hawkes follow up single “I’m a Man Not a Boy” became a modest hit in the U.K. reaching no.27.
Hawkes has been able to maintain a presence in the public eye with numerous reality T.V appearances including Hit Me Baby One More Time, in which he competed against other one hit wonders performing their big hit and a modern cover, with the winner enabled to release the two songs as a single. Hawkes reached the final on the show. He also appeared on The Games, in which celebrities perform Olympic style sport events, finishing third with a Bronze medal. He also made a cameo in Celebrity Big Brother during a task.
In 2008 Hawkes successfully auditioned for the lead role in Can’t Smile Without You, a musical based on the work of Barry Manilow. The musical toured the U.K. throughout the year, including performances at the Liverpool Empire Theatre and London’s West End.
