Geoff Hurst
Sir Geoff Hurst is a sporting legend the world over, he is the only player to ever score a hat trick in a World Cup final, a record which he holds to this day.
Originally making his name at club side West Ham United, in which he scored a monumental 248 goals in 499 appearances Hurst went on to win Player of The Year three times, in addition to winning the F.A. Cup in 1964 with West Ham and the European Cup Winners Cup in 1965. He however is most famed for his role in the national team that made him a sporting icon, not only winning the World Cup in 1966 but scoring a hat trick in the final, an un-parralled achievement. It was in reference to this accomplishment that Kenneth Wolstenholme uttered those immortal words, “they think it’s all over...it is now,” which is recognised as the most shown piece of sporting footage ever broadcast.
Hurst’s incredible success have led him to a number of high profile speaking arrangements across the globe, including speeches for companies as diverse as Toyota, Lloyds Bank and Proctor and Gamble. His format usually consists of a highly entertaining after dinner speech, although his address can be seen as motivational. Having received standing ovation after standing ovation Hurst has proven his worth and disproved any and all that may have claimed he “got lucky.”
He received his knighthood in 1998.
